Club update and fee increases

Dear members

Following our June committee meeting, we have decided to increase some annual membership fees. We are also increasing all court fees from £2.50 to £3.00 per 40 minutes, the exception being junior court bookings which will remain free so long as they are booked in off-peak times. These are the first increases for a number of years and the main driver is one of securing our future finances and providing the club with the working capital needed to make the investments needed over the coming years. We also appreciate we are in a period of escalating utility prices that will eventually result in our club's costs increasing. At this stage we are protected from Gas and Electricity increases due to existing contracts previously negotiated by the PFA; we do however need to make provisions for the inevitable increases.

As Chairman, I am in the process of working with the committee on a 3-5 year strategic plan and when we have this finalised we will circulate to all members. This plan will focus on sustainability and growth of the club, together with the changes we need to make to ensure the club is an attractive venue for existing and new members. We believe we have one of the best, if not the best courts in the York area and we want to do more to attract new members, ranging from juniors and absolute beginners, through to club standard players.

In the short term, there are some improvements being made, here is a summary:

Automated lights
As you will know, the existing light automation has been either out of service or operating with problems for some years now. I'm pleased to confirm that we have just received delivery of a new switch unit, this time provided by our booking system provider MyCourts. We hope to have this implemented and tested in the next fortnight and this should provide a more reliable platform for the future.

Court maintenance
We are in the process of confirming dates for the maintenance of all three courts. This will include treatment of the walls, sanding of the floors and new line tapes.

The increased membership subscriptions and court fees will become effective from the 1st of July 2022, so anyone wishing to renew before that date can do so at the current rates. The new rates are as follows:

May I take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support of the club.

Regards

Andy Tuck
Club Chairman
