Update on junior coaching

Advanced Squash Junior update. The Friday night coaching is well attended and routines based on the 6 squash pillars are also working well. I would like to thank Lee Twigge who helps me with the coaching on Friday evenings when he his available. Poppie has had a great season and her U15s National Ranking 6 is well deserved. As she has now moved into the U17s age group it now became a lot harder as she is now one of the youngest in the draw. In her ?rst silver tournament in Carlisle she ?nished 3rd with wins over the No1 and No3 seeds. A great effort – well done. Poppies next tournament was the Fair?elds Open Bronze girls U17s Event (Manchester) which she won beating No1 seed on her way to the title. Poppies next event was the Halifax Open Bronze Event girls U19s. As the youngest and lowest ranked player expectations were to gain valuable experience. However, Poppie played exceptionally well to ?nish runner up and in the process beat 3 girls ranked higher than her. One of the players that she beat was ranked No 5 in England so this was a great result. Yorkshire Closed Girls U17s at Pontefract was Poppies next challenge and taking her recent form into the tournament she ?nished runner up to the No1 seed, losing 3-1 in a close fought ?nal. Poppie has now been invited to attend the ESR prestigious Aspire Training Program and has been selected to represent Yorkshire U17s Girls. She will be playing at No2 at Tynemouth against teams from Northumberland, Cumbria and Derbyshire. Ruby Batchelor who is only 8yrs old will soon be treading the same path. Ruby is currently Nationally Ranked girls U11s No 30 and expected to be ranked No1 in Yorkshire in the New Year. Ruby is an exceptional talent for her young age and a credit to Shaun and Jo. I’ve never coached a kid so happy and smiley but still willing to put the hard work in. The Star Junior this month is Emma Purdy she improves week after week having some great battles with Ruby as they drag each other to all 4 corners of the court. She is always polite and well mannered a credit to her parents Nick and Teresa - well done Emma. Gary Crossland ESR Level 3 Squash and Racketball Coach Sunday morning coaching This coaching is still very well attended and thanks to Shaun, Steve and Martin for delivering this. The coaching is open to all ages and abilities so if you know of any aspiring younger players that would like to try squash, please get them to call down to the club on a Sunday morning between 10.00 and 12.00. Regards to all.
