Service message: Latest Government advice (updated 19 June)

Hi [[firstname]]

Unfortunately, the Dunnington squash club remains closed. We are reviewing the situation week by week and as soon as it is safe to do so we will be keen to re-open, even if in a phased manner. Here is the latest statement from our governing body England Squash.

Latest Government advice (updated 19 June)community sport could return at the beginning of July at the very earliest. What this means for squash remains unclear as we continue to await further guidance from the Government. In the meantime, we must all continue to follow Government guidance and keep all courts closed. We are busy finalising a toolkit for clubs and venues including a risk assessment template to facilitate safe play. Once we receive guidance from the Government to open all venues and have clarity from Sport England on any of the details, we will prepare and release our toolkit and resources to clubs, venues and coaches. Any premature response could lead to confusion amongst the squash community. It is a frustrating time for the community, but we must impress the need to follow Government guidelines only as and when they are available, not beforehand, for the safety of everyone.

We appreciate your patience at this time and will update you as soon as we hear anything. In the mean time, there are some areas that clubs and venues can start to think about such as access and court bookings - visit our FAQs page for more info.

All squash activity in England currently remains suspended following the UK Government’s advice to close sports facilities. The Government issued further FAQs on 11th May in relation to exercise and what is and isn't permitted. Specifically: "As with before, the public cannot: exercise in an indoor sports court, gym or leisure centre, or go swimming in a public pool."

This means that all squash clubs and facilities should remain closed until further notice - this includes anyone wishing to engage in solo practice or members of the same household playing on a squash court. As we await further information from the Government, we are planning how we can best support squash clubs when they reopen, including grants and guidance for day-to-day operations. We are very eager to see squash return as soon as it possibly can, in a safe way that is aligned to Government advice. We will share more information at the appropriate time, so that we can all get back on court.

We hope to have some better news before too long and appreciate your patience. Once we have a firm date for reopening the club we will update everyone's membership renewal dates to reflect the period of time in which the club has been close.

Regards
Squash Committee
